Refined Shea Butter is a purified botanical fat obtained from the kernels of the shea tree, botanically identified as Vitellaria paradoxa and historically known as Butyrospermum parkii. The kernels are processed to obtain the natural fat, which is subsequently refined to improve colour, odour, consistency and purity.
Refined Shea Butter is naturally rich in fatty acids, particularly oleic acid and stearic acid, together with an unsaponifiable fraction containing compounds such as tocopherols, phytosterols and triterpene-related constituents.
It is widely used as an emollient, conditioning ingredient and functional lipid in cosmetic, personal-care, oral-care and selected food/nutraceutical formulations. Depending on grade and regulatory requirements, it can be incorporated into creams, lotions, balms, lip-care products, hair-care products, soft formulations and other lipid-based applications.
